Golf club length calculator

This golf club length calculator finds the right club length for you from two measurements: your height and your wrist-to-floor distance. Standard clubs are built for someone about five foot ten with average arms. If that is not you, a small change puts the club back where your hands naturally hang.

Your length = standard length + adjustment

The adjustment comes from your height and your wrist-to-floor measurement.
Fig. 1. Fitters start from this static measurement, then check it by watching you hit balls.

Golf club length calculator: enter your measurements

Enter your height and the distance from your wrist crease to the floor, standing upright in golf shoes. You get the adjustment from standard and a length for each club.

What length golf clubs do I need?

The right golf club length depends on how far your hands are from the ground when you stand to the ball. Height gives a first estimate. The wrist-to-floor measurement refines it, because it accounts for the length of your arms. Most golfers between 5'7" and 6'1" fit standard length clubs. Taller or shorter players usually need a quarter of an inch to an inch added or taken off.

How to use the golf club length calculator

    1. Choose feet and inches, or centimetres.
    2. Enter your height, measured in golf shoes.
    3. Enter your wrist-to-floor measurement.
    4. Read the adjustment from standard and the recommended length for each club in the set.

How to measure wrist to floor for golf clubs

    1. Put on your golf shoes and stand upright on a hard floor.
    2. Let your arms hang relaxed at your sides. Do not reach or shrug.
    3. Have someone measure from the crease where your wrist meets your hand straight down to the floor.

    Golf club length example

A golfer is 6'4" tall with a wrist-to-floor measurement of 39 inches. Height suggests clubs one inch longer than standard. Wrist to floor suggests half an inch. The calculator splits the difference and recommends +0.75 inches, which makes a standard 37-inch 7-iron 37.75 inches.

How do I know what length golf clubs I need?

Measure your height and wrist to floor, then enter both in the golf club length calculator above. It gives the adjustment from standard and a length for every club.

What is the standard length of a golf club?

A modern men's driver is about 45.5 inches and a 7-iron about 37. Each iron is half an inch shorter than the one before it. Women's standard clubs are typically an inch shorter.

Is height or wrist to floor more important for club length?

Wrist to floor. It accounts for arm length, which height alone misses. A tall golfer with long arms may need standard clubs, and a shorter golfer with short arms may too.

What happens if my golf clubs are too long or too short?

Too long and you stand tall, catching the ball off the heel or thin. Too short and you hunch, which costs balance and strikes toward the toe. Either way you start adjusting your swing to fit the club.
